BLUES LOOK TO THREE-PEAT THIS WEEKEND

The top-seeded University of Toronto Varsity Blues field hockey team will be looking for their third-straight banner at the 2013 OUA championship, October 25-27, at York Stadium.

The Blues finished the regular season atop the standings with an undefeated 11-0-1 record, including eight shut out wins and a CIS-leading 52 goals for.  

The Blues will take on the winner of Friday's Waterloo/Queen's playoff on Saturday at noon.

Toronto looks to three-peat and earn their seventh OUA title in the past 10 years. U of T has won a league-leading 29 provincial championships since 1971.

A semi-final win on Saturday will secure Toronto's spot at the CIS championship, October 31-November 3, hosted by the University of Victoria.
 
Fourth-year forward Ally Evanyshyn of Burlington, Ont., led the team and OUA in scoring with 15 goals in 12 games. Tegan and Emma Stairs ranked third and fourth with nine and six goals, respectively.

The second-seeded Guelph Gryphons also earn a bye into the semi-final round and will take on the winner of Friday's Wester/Saint Mary's playoff. Toronto and Guelph have met in the last six OUA finals, which each team winning three times.

The Blues hold a 81-12-9 head-to-head record over the Gryphons since their first meeting on Oct. 27, 1967.  Guelph's first win over Toronto came on Sept. 25, 2005. Since then, the two teams have been perennial powerhouses in OUA field hockey, with Toronto holding a slight upperhand (17-12-6).
