BLUES COME UP SHORT AT MATTAMY

Box Score It was an exciting battle between the pipes as the Varsity Blues men’s hockey team fell 3-1 to the Ryerson Rams on Wednesday night (Jan. 23) at Mattamy Athletic Centre.

U of T’s Brett Willows, the top netminder in the OUA, posted 33 saves, allowing two goals against on the night.

Rams goalie Louie George stopped 44-of-45 shots he faced, including a 22-save second period shut out.

Second-year forward Paul Van De Velde (Mariapolis, Man.) opened the scoring for the Blues at 12:32 of the first period after several whacks at a loose puck in close. Toronto skated to a 1-0 lead after 20 minutes.

In the second period, Ryerson found the equalizer as Jason Kelly buried a chance in close on a sprawled out Willows at 13:29.
