The Varsity Blues men’s hockey team gave up five third-period goals in a 6-1 loss to the Ryerson Rams on Sunday afternoon (Feb. 5) at George Bell Arena.
The loss drops Toronto to 14-9-3 as they sit in fourth place in the OUA East division.
First-year Blues forward Blake Boddy opened the scoring at the end of the first period with a powerplay marker assisted by Cassidy Preston and Anthony Bergin. Toronto made good on 1-of-10 powerplay attempts on the day.
The Rams evened the score midway through the second, also on the man advantage, with a goal from Jason McDonough.
The game remained 1-1 heading into the third period.
The third period saw Ryerson score five goals in just under six minutes. McDonough and Greg Payne ended the day with two goals apiece.
U of T rookie goaltender Brett Willows made 33 saves, including 17 in the third period, in the loss.
The Varsity Blues return to the ice this Friday, February 10 as they host their last regular season home game versus the RMC Paladins at Varsity Arena. Puck drop is set for 7:30 p.m.
