Sophomore and veteran guards Jill Stratton and Sherri Pierce were recognized as Ontario University Athletics (OUA) announced the women’s basketball East division major award winners and all-stars on Monday morning.
Last year’s OUA East rookie of the year, Stratton was named to the 2011-12 first team after ranking sixth in the province with 14.6 points per game. The Etobicoke, Ont., native sat third in the OUA with 63 steals, while also standing among the top 10 players in total assists (63).
A native of Brampton, Ont., Pierce ends her five-year career with her second consecutive second team recognition. Pierce averaged 12.01 points over 21 games this season, while also recording 61 assists. She knocked down a career-high 27 points in Toronto’s last regular season game versus Ottawa on Feb. 18.
