NO. 9 BLUES ROUT RIDGEBACKS

Box Score After two scoreless periods, the Varsity Blues scored three goals in less than four minutes en route to a 4-0 win over the UOIT Ridgebacks in OUA women’s hockey action on Saturday night (Nov. 3) in Oshawa, Ont.
 
Fifth-year forward Callie Bazak of Peterborough, Ont., scored two goals, while sophomore goaltender Krista Funkes made 33 saves in her first shut out of the season.
 
With the win, the Blues improve to 7-1-1 and remain tied with the Laurier Golden Hawks for second place in the OUA.
 
Bazak opened the scoring 1:56 into the first period with a goal assisted by rookie forward Taylor Day.  Madoc, Ont., native Ragan Danford notched her second goal of the season just two minutes later, before Bazak added her second of the game to give Toronto a commanding 3-0 lead.
 
Team captain Kelly O’Hanlon added an unassisted, short-handed marker midway through the frame. The Markham, Ont., native leads the team and ranks sixth in the province with 10 points so far this season.
 
The Varsity Blues have a quick turnaround as they travel to take on the York Lions tomorrow at 2 p.m.
