BLUES TOPPED BY NO. 5 PATRIOTES

Box Score The No. 10 Varsity Blues men’s hockey team gave up two short-handed goals in a 6-2 loss to the UQTR Patriotes on Saturday afternoon at Le Colisee.

The Blues now drop to 7-4-3 and remain tied for second place with the Carleton Ravens, while UQTR improves to 10-3-1 and sits atop the OUA East.

Toronto and UQTR capitalized only once on eight powerplay opportunities a piece. The Patriotes got out to 2-0 lead with a short-handed and powerplay marker, before second-year defeceman Marcus Yolevski (Toronto) potted his first career goal when the Blues were a man down. UQTR led 2-1 after the first period.

The Patriotes added to their lead with two goals in the first six minutes of the second frame. The Blues were unable to retaliate until the 3:26 mark of the third period, when veteran forward Kyle Ventura (Scarborough, Ont.) notched his ninth goal of the season on the powerplay.

The home team would add two more late tallies in the third to round out the four-goal victory.

The Varsity Blues return to the ice next Friday, November 30 as they host the Ottawa Gee-Gees at Varsity Arena. The puck drops at 7:30 p.m.
