STEWART JOINS WOMEN’S BASKETBALL STAFF

The Varsity Blues are proud to add women’s basketball icon Sue Stewart to their coaching staff in the 2012-13 season.

“I am so happy that Sue has joined our program,” said head coach Michèle Bélanger, entering her 33rd season with the Blues. “She brings a great basketball knowledge to the team and is an exceptional role model for our student-athletes here at U of T.”

A 1996 Olympian, Stewart was a member of Canada's women's national basketball team at the Atlanta Games. She also represented Canada as a player at the FIBA championship, the FIBA world Olympic qualifying tournament, the Pan American Games and the FISU world student games.

As a member of the Laurentian University women's basketball team, Stewart won two CIS national titles and five OUA championships. She was a five-time OUA all-star and in 1991-92 was the recipient of the Nan Copp award as the CIS player of the year.

A Level 3 NCCP coach, Stewart was a graduate assistant with the women's basketball team coaching staff at Malone University in Canton, Ohio in 2004-05 and spent last season as an assistant coach with the Ryerson Rams.

Stewart has a M.A.C.M in Christian Ministry, emphasis in Sports Ministry, from Malone as well as a B.A. in arts, emphasis in Law and Justice, from Laurentian University.
