BLUES NOTCH THIRD STRAIGHT WIN

Box Score Sophomore forward Jeff Brown scored with two minutes to go as the Varsity Blues men’s hockey team edged the Nipissing Lakers 3-2 on Friday, October 26 at Memorial Gardens in North Bay, Ont.
 
With the win, the Blues remain atop the OUA standings with a 5-0-1 record, while the Lakers drop to 2-4-0 on the season.
 
Tyler Liukkonen opened the scoring with a powerplay goal 12 minutes into the game. Paul Van De Velde (Mariapolis, Man.) put the Blues up by two just four minutes later with a goal assisted by veteran Kyle Ventura.
 
The Lakers got on the board midway through the second period when Lucas McKinley found a way past Blues goaltender Brett Willows. Toronto held a 2-1 advantage heading into the final frame.
 
Nipissing evened the score with just over six minutes remaining with a powerplay marker from Grant Toulmin. Brown then added the game-winner, assisted by Liukkonen and rookie Dylan Heide, at 17:59 of the third period.
 
Willows posted 35 saves in the win.
 
The Varsity Blues return to the ice next Friday, November 2 when they host the Windsor Lancers at Varsity Arena. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.
