Box Score The No. 10 Varsity Blues women’s basketball team came away with a dominant 76-40 victory over the RMC Paladins on Friday, January 6 in Kingston, Ont.
Second-year forward and Montreal native Liane Bailey led the Blues with 11 points, while Jill Stratton (Etobicoke, Ont.) and Kristy Chute (Amherstburg, Ont.) had 10 apiece on the night. Nine other players saw action and contributed in the win.
Toronto got off to a great start, outscoring the home Paladins 21-5 in the first quarter and building a 47-17 win heading into halftime. The Paladins held close in the second half, with the Blues holding a 29-23 advantage to come away with the 36-point win.
“We had a great first half, defending hard and staying focused,” said Michele Belanger, now in her 33rd season as Blues bench boss. “We had great minutes from everyone tonight. Our first- and second-year players worked hard and hustled. It was a nice team effort for the win.”
The win lifts Toronto to 6-3 and leaves them tied with Carleton for second place in the OUA East division.
Sandy Edmison led the Paladins with 11 points in the losing cause.
The Varsity Blues return to the court tomorrow night as they take on the Queen’s Gaels in Kingston, Ont. Game time is set for 6 p.m.
