Varsity Blues women’s basketball player Amanda Lauzon has been named an associate coach of Ontario’s under-15 girl’s basketball team.
A third-year forward from Niagara Falls, Ont., Lauzon will be with the team for training camps throughout May, June and July in preparation for two tournaments in Chicago and Washington. The squad will then head to the national championships (Aug. 5-12) in Fredericton, New Brunswick.
"I am honored to be able to represent Ontario at the national level while also using this opportunity to grow as a coach and act as a role model to the young female athletes," said Lauzon. "I hope to relate the values I have learned from coach Belanger and the Varsity Blues program to the girls that I will be working with this summer."
Lauzon has coached at every level of the elite development program (DP) with Ontario Basketball.
She was previously the assistant coach for the regional training centre in the Niagara region, as well as BDP Niagara assistant coach, MDP Central East head coach, JDP Central East assistant coach, BDP capital region head coach and is currently an assistant coach with the centre for performance in Toronto.
Lauzon has completed her National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) level II training and is currently working toward level three.
