Four third-period goals would lift the Varsity Blues men’s hockey team to a come-from-behind 6-5 victory over the York Lions on Tuesday, September 27 at Varsity Arena.
Second-year defenceman Matt Walters of Winnipeg scored the game-winner with 21 seconds remaining to secure the Blues win.
Down 2-0 after the first period, the Blues attempted to rally but still found themselves down by two (4-2) heading into the final frame.
York’s Chad Hohmann scored to extend the visitor’s lead to three early in the third period; however, U of T came back and scored four unanswered goals.
Rookie forward Tyler Liukkonen led the Blues with two goals in the victory. Fellow rookie Paul Van De Velde and veteran forwards Byron Elliott and Robert Kay added single tallies on the night.
The Varsity Blues return to the ice this weekend (Oct. 1-2) as they head to Michigan for a pair of pre-season games versus Western Michigan and Ferris State. U of T’s full schedule can be found
