The Varsity Blues men’s hockey team gave up four third-period goals as they fell 4-2 to the Queen’s Gaels on Saturday night (Feb. 12) at Constantine Arena in Kingston, Ont.
With the loss, the Blues end the regular season with a 10-11-7 record and awaits the results of tomorrow’s game between Concordia and McGill to determine whether they finish in sixth or seventh place in the OUA East.
Third-year forward and assistant captain Byron Elliott tallied both of Toronto’s goals early in the first period. The Burlington, Ont., native opened the scoring with a shorthanded marker assisted by Matt Walters, before notching his second of the game at the 10:31 mark.
After a scoreless second period, Jordan Soquila got the Gaels on the board two minutes into the third period. Jordan Mirwaldt notched a powerplay goal less than two minutes later to even the score, before Ben Munroe scored the eventual game-winner. Munroe would add an empty netter with 12 seconds remaining to secure the 4-2 win.
Blues rookie goaltender Garrett Sheehan made 29 saves in the loss.
