The Blues struggled to get their legs early in the first quarter, and the Thunderwolves went on an 8-0 run to start the game. U of T’s defensive play would help get them back in the game in the second half. The Blues forced a remarkable 30 turnovers from the Thunderwolves offence and went on an 8-0 run of their own at the start of the third quarter to take their first lead of the game.
The Thunderwolves regained the lead soon after, but the Blues went on the offensive again in the final quarter, with yet another 8-0 run to take a 61-59 lead with minutes remaining. It wouldn’t be enough in the end, as Lakehead took the lead back for good on free-throws in the final seconds. Stratton threw up a desperation three-point shot as the buzzer sounded, but couldn’t get it to fall.
The Thunderwolves were led by Lacey Mcnulty’s 14 points, and Lindsay Druery’s double-double of 13 points and 15 rebounds.
The Blues next game is tomorrow (Nov, 19) in Guelph against the Gryphons. Tip-off is 6 p.m.
