The Varsity Blues men’s hockey team dropped a 6-2 decision to the Nipissing Lakers on Sunday, October 30 at Varsity Arena.
With the loss, the Blues drop to 4-2-1 and sit in fifth place in the OUA East. The Lakers improve to 6-1-2 and are tied for the top spot in the division with the McGill Redmen.
Toronto built a 2-0 lead early in the second period; however, the Lakers would come back with three goals in each of the second and third periods to earn the win.
Second-year Blues forward Anthony Bergin opened the scoring with just over two minutes remaining in the first period with a goal assisted by Blake Boddy and Tyler Liukkonen.
Blues leading scorer Byron Elliott notched a powerplay marker 4:06 into the second frame, but the Lakers would battle back and scored their first of six unanswered goals 14 seconds later.
Brogan Bailey led the Lakers with two goals, while Marcus Watson, Brodie Beard, Conor O’Donnell and Andrew Marcoux added single tallies in the win.
The Varsity Blues return to the ice next Friday, November 4 as they travel to Montreal to take on the McGill Redmen. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
