BLUES DROP OT DECISION TO GAELS

The Varsity Blues men’s hockey team fell 4-3 in overtime to the Queen’s Gaels on Saturday, October 29 at Kingston Memorial Centre.

With the loss, the Blues are now 4-1-1 and sit in fifth place in the OUA East division.

Gaels forward Corey Bureau secured a hat trick performance with the game-winner 1:02 into the overtime period.

After a scoreless first period, Jonathon Lawrance of Steinbach, Man., gave the Gaels a 1-0 lead with a shorthanded marker.

The Blue would tie things up at one just over five minutes later with a goal from third-year forward Kyle Ventura (Scarborough, Ont.).

Bureau responded with his first goal of the night, but rookie forward Tyler von Engelbrechten evened the score at 2-2 with just 18 seconds remaining in the second period.

Blues defenceman Jeffrey Zippel scored the go-ahead goal 28 seconds into the third; however Bureau would score to force overtime with just over five minutes remaining in regulation.

U of T rookie goaltender Brett Willows made 38 saves in the loss.

The Varsity Blues return to the ice tomorrow as they host the Nipissing Lakers at Varsity Arena. The puck drops at 5:30 p.m.
