BLUES CAN’T GET PAST PALADINS

The Varsity Blues men’s hockey team fell 4-3 to the RMC Paladins on Sunday afternoon (Jan. 30) at Constantine Arena in Kingston, Ont.

With the loss, the Blues are now 8-10-6 and sit in eighth place in the OUA East division.

Alexandre Leclerc opened the scoring midway through the first period and RMC held onto that 1-0 lead after the first period of play.

The Blues got on the board five minutes into the second period on a powerplay opportunity with a marker off the stick of rookie forward Blake Boddy.

Toronto went ahead by two less than three minutes later when Scarborough, Ont., native Kyle Ventura beat RMC goaltender Andrew Flemming.

Justin Lacey would even the score in the dying minutes of the second with a goal assisted by Shawn Cox as the game remained deadlocked at 2-2 heading into the final frame.

RMC struck first with a shorthanded goal from Lacey. First-year forward Anthony Bergin responded six minutes later; however, the Paladins would net the game-winner with just over five minute remaining in the game off the stick of Landon Lavictoire.

The Varsity Blues return to the ice this Thursday, February 3 when they take on the Ryerson Rams at George Bell Arena. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.
