BLUES RUN OVER RMC

Box Score A strong first-quarter performance would be all the No. 7 Varsity Blues women’s basketball team would need as they came away with a 64-30 win over the RMC Paladins on Friday, January 21 at the Athletic Centre Sports Gym.

With the win, the Blues improve to 10-4 and remain in second place behind the No. 6 Carleton Ravens (11-2) in the OUA East division.

Toronto quickly took control of the game, gaining a lopsided 28-4 advantage after the first quarter. RMC took the wind out of their sails in a very low scoring second quarter; however, the Blues still held a 35-9 advantage at halftime.

The game was much closer in the second half, but the visiting Paladins were unable to amount any sort of comeback. Toronto outscored RMC 29-21 in the second half to secure their 10th win of the season.

Rookie guard Jill Stratton of Etobicoke, Ont., was named the Varsity Blues player of the game for her game-high 13 points, eight boards and seven steals on the night. Fellow rookie Liane Bailey (Montreal) recorded 11 points and seven boards, while veteran guard Erin McNeely of Kingston, Ont., had 10 points in the win.

Sandy Edmison of Carleton Place, Ont., led RMC with eight points and a game-high 13 boards. Carolyn Pumphrey chipped in with seven points in the loss.

The Varsity Blues return to the court tomorrow night when they host their fourth annual Cheer Blue, Think Pink game versus the Queen’s Gaels at the Athletic Centre Sports Gym. Tip off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
