The Varsity Blues women’s hockey team blanked the UOIT Ridgebacks 2-0 on Sunday, November 7 at Varsity Arena.
With the win, the Blues improve to 5-4-0 and sit in sixth place in the OUA standings.
After a scoreless first period, second-year forward Kelly O’Hanlon got the Blues on the board five minutes into the second period. The Markham, Ont. native received a pass from Darby Smith and one-timed in through the legs of UOIT goaltender Jessica Larabie (Pickering, Ont.) and into the net.
Fourth-year forward Brenley Jorgensen of Kingston, Ont., added an insurance marker when she finished off a nice two-on-one with Amanda Fawns (Scarborough, Ont.) with just over eight minutes remaining in the game.
Blues goaltender Kendyl Valenta of Brampton, Ont., made 24 saves in the shut out win.
The Varsity Blues return to action next Friday, November 12 when they travel to Waterloo, Ont., to take on the OUA defending champion Laurier Golden Hawks. The puck drops at 7:30 p.m.
