BLUES DROP 3-2 DECISION TO HAWKS

The Varsity Blues men’s volleyball team dropped a narrow 3-2 (26-24, 25-23, 18-25, 18-25, 8-15) decision to the Laurier Golden Hawks on Saturday, November 27 at Wilfrid Laurier Athletic Complex.

After Toronto took the first two sets 26-24, 25-23, Laurier battled back and won the next three sets 25-18, 25-18, 15-8. With the loss, the Blues are 2-8 heading into the holiday break, while Laurier improves to 6-4.

First-year outside hitter Jonathan Adomait of Dundas, Ont., led the Blues with 13 kills and seven digs, while Matthew Vares chipped in with nine kills and seven digs and Jake Dysselhoff also had nine kills on the night. Veteran middle Adam Palmer of Ottawa recorded eight digs, two solo blocks and nine assisted blocks for a team-high 15 points on the night.

Laurier was led by Cameron Wheelan (Barrie, Ont.) who contributed 27 total points with 20 coming from kills, two from service aces and five total blocked shots. Other key contributors were Greg Houston (Chatham, Ont.) who chipped in 12 kills, eight digs, and defensively had five and a half total blocked shots.

The Varsity Blues return to the court in the new year when they head south for the George Mason tournament, January 6-8 in Virginia.
