BLUES DROP ROAD GAME TO WARRIORS

The Varsity Blues men’s hockey team dropped a 3-1 decision to the Waterloo Warriors on Saturday, November 20 at Columbia Ice Field in Waterloo, Ont.

With the loss the Blues are 3-7-3 and sit in eighth place in the OUA East, while the Warriors improve to 9-5-0 and are in third in the West.

After a scoreless first period, Waterloo got on the board with a powerplay goal off the stick of Josh Schappert. The Blues responded 30 seconds later as Burlington, Ont., native Byron Elliott and David Mooney of Toronto connected with Robert Kay (Orono, Ont.) for what would be Toronto’s lone goal of the game.

Kyle Sonnenburg put the home team up by one with 41 seconds remaining in the second period and Tyler Moir would add some insurance midway through the third to round out the 3-1 loss for Toronto.

Blues goaltender Garrett Sheehan of Cremona, Alta., made 23 saves in the loss.

The Varsity Blues return to action next Friday, November 26 when they host the Laurier Golden Hawks at Varsity Arena. The Blues also host their annual Minor Hockey Night on Saturday, November 27 versus the UOIT Ridgebacks. Game time on both nights is 7:30 p.m.
