The Varsity Blues men’s hockey team fell 4-1 to the Ottawa Gee-Gees on Sunday, November 14 at Sports Complex Arena in Ottawa.
In what proved to be a penalty-filled first period, the Gee-Gees took an early lead with a short-handed goal by first-year forward Matt White of Ottawa.
Less than 2 minutes later, Ottawa’s top line would connect with first-year forward Luc Olivier Blain of Longueuil, Que., who netted his eighth goal to make the score 2-0.
Third-year forward and assistant captain Byron Elliott of Burlington, Ont., would get the Blues on the board before the first period expired, with a powerplay marker assisted by Matt Walters and Tyler Turcotte.
The Blues went on to struggle on the powerplay, going 1-for-12 over 60 minutes of action.
Ottawa took a two-goal lead when Blain potted his second of the game early in the second frame. Austin Krahenbil scored a powerplay marker just over two minutes later to round out the 4-1 win.
The Varsity Blues return to action next Friday, November 19 when they travel to London, Ont., to take on the Western Mustangs. Game time is 7:35 p.m.
