BLUES DOWN RAMS FOR THIRD STRAIGHT WIN

Kate Crowley and Melanie Seabra each tallied two goals as the Varsity Blues women’s soccer team defeated the Ryerson Rams 6-0 on Wednesday, October 13 at Birchmount Stadium.

With the win, the Blues improve to 6-2-4 and move into third place in the OUA East division.

A native of London, Ont., Crowley opened the scoring when she caught the Ryerson goalkeeper off her line with a booming shot from 40 yards out.

The Blues continued to pressure throughout the first half. At the 35 minute mark, Jennifer Siu of London, Ont., flicked a ball to Etobicoke, Ont., native Diana Esteireiro which sent the Rams scrambling and resulted in a clearing attempt that was deflected into their own net.

U of T held a 2-0 lead at the half.

Calgary native Shirley Ho led the way early in the second, walking the ball into the box to draw the goalkeeper towards her before sending a cross pass to a wide-open Crowley for her second of the game.

Aisha Lewis (Mississauga, Ont.) tallied her first goal as a Varsity Blue on a penalty kick after she was taken down by two Rams defenders in the 18-yard box in the 77th minute.

Seabra went on to score back-to-back goals in the last 10 minutes of the match. The Brampton, Ont., native found herself in all alone with the goalkeeper in the 80th minute and calmly chipped the ball over her head and into the net. Seabra then received a nice cross from Lewis in the dying minutes of the match and made no mistake in finding the mesh to secure the 6-0 win.

The Varsity Blues return to the field on Sunday, October 17 when they travel to Kingston, Ont., to take on the Queen’s Gaels. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
