Steven Kung tallied a game-high 23 kills as the University of Toronto Varsity Blues men’s volleyball team defeated the Laurier Golden Hawks 3-1 on Sunday, November 8 at the Athletic Centre Sports Gym.

The Blues got off to a good start, taking the first two games 25-20, 25-17. The Golden Hawks began to rally to take a close third set 27-25, however U of T returned to fine form to take the fourth game 25-17 and secure their first victory of 2009-10.

Second-year standout Mike Manning (Vernon, B.C.) added 14 kills and 13 digs in the victory.

Samuel Schachter (Richmond Hill, Ont.) led Laurier with 11 kills, while Dave Hamilton (Toronto) had 12 digs in the loss.

The Varsity Blues return to action next Friday, November 13 as they host the Ryerson Rams at the Athletic Centre Sports Gym. Game time is scheduled for 8 p.m.
