Lindsay Hill scored two goals and added two assists as the University of Toronto Varsity Blues women’s hockey team defeated the UOIT Ridgebacks 6-3 on Sunday, November 15 at Campus Ice Centre.
UOIT’s Jill Morillo opened the scoring on the first shift of the game as she picked up her own rebound to find the back of Toronto’s net.
Third-year forward Amanda Fawns (Scarborough, Ont.) answered back at the 5:26 mark of the first period when she buried a rebound to beat Ridgebacks goaltender Jessica Larabie.
Blues captain Karolina Urban (Kamloops, B.C.) scored less than three minutes later as she wired a wrist shot into the top corner of the net.
Annie DelGuidice (Hamilton, Ont.) scored a short handed marker to put the Blues up by two on a solid individual effort, deking out Larabie and send the puck through her legs into the net.
The Blues got into some penalty trouble and Rikki Palmateer capitalized with 10 seconds remaining in the first period to bring the game within one.
UOIT captain Megan Friel would tie the game 46 seconds into the second with another powerplay marker, however the rest of the game would be dominated by the Blues.
Hill (Ajax, Ont.) continued her stellar play this season as she knocked in an Urban rebound for what would be the eventual game-winner.
Fourth-year forward Emily Milito (Ottawa, Ont.) finished off a beautiful passing play with DelGuidice and Brenley Jorgensen (Kingston, Ont.), before Hill would tally her second of the night, an empty-netter, to secure the 6-3 victory for the Blues.
U of T goaltender Melissa Muir (Winnnipeg, Man.) made 17 saves in the victory.
The Varsity Blues return to action next Saturday, November 21 as they host the York Lions at Varsity Arena. Game time is scheduled for 3 p.m.
