MEN’S HOCKEY FALLS TO LAKEHEAD 5-1

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men’s hockey team dropped a 5-1 decision to the Lakehead Thunderwolves on Saturday, November 14 at Fort Williams Gardens in Thunder Bay, Ont.

Brock MacPherson opened the scoring on a powerplay opportunity with one second remaining in the first period to put the Thunderwolves up 1-0.

Mark Soares extended Lakehead’s lead to two 8:05 into the second frame off a pass from teammate Pierre-Marc Guilbault.

The Blues tallied what would be their only goal of the game when second-year forward David Mooney (Toronto) found a hole past Lakehead goaltender Kyle Moir with just over two minutes remaining in the period.

The Thunderwolves would extend their lead for good with two third-period goals off the sticks of Victor Anilane and Ryan Baird.

Blues goaltender Russ Brownell (Oakville, Ont.) made 44 saves in the loss.

The Varsity Blues return to the ice next Friday, November 20 when they host the Guelph Gryphons at Varsity Arena. The puck drops at 7:30 p.m.
