MEN’S HOCKEY FALLS TO RAVENS 4-1

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men’s hockey team fell 4-1 to the Carleton Ravens on Saturday, October 10 at the Carleton University Ice House.

Second-year Ravens forward Brandon McLean (Burlington, Ont.) had a hand in all four of Carleton’s goals, tallying two goals and two assists.

McLean opened up the scoring just four minutes into the game as the Blues found themselves trapped in their own zone from the get-go. The Ravens continued to apply pressure and the Blues were unable to put a shot on a goal for the first eight minutes of the game.

Carleton took a two-goal lead midway through the first period when Christian Bourdau-Mifflen’s (Ottawa) point shot went through a sea of red jerseys and past Blues goaltender Andrew Martin (Mississauga, Ont.).

The Blues started to tighten up in their defensive end, stopping many Ravens scoring opportunities. However, McLean would add his second goal of the game at the 7:50 mark of the second period off a three-on-two Ravens attack.

With less than five minutes remaining, forward Ryan Berard (Niagara Falls, Ont.) tallied another marker for the Ravens to give his squad a comfortable 4-0 lead heading into the third period.

The Blues had a couple of powerplay advantages early in the third period but despite some great chances, could not put one past Ravens goaltender Alex Archibald (Ottawa).

With less than 5 minutes to go in the game, third-year forward Joel Lenius (Markham, Ont.) would spoil the Ravens shut out with a Blues goal assisted by David Mooney (Toronto) and Paul Dupont (Sault St. Marie, Ont.).

Martin posted 24 saves in the 4-1 Toronto loss.

The Varsity Blues return to action next Friday, October 16 when they head to North Bay, Ont. to take on the Nipissing Lakers. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
