BLUES SHUT OUT RAVENS

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men’s hockey team defeated the Carleton Ravens 4-0 on Saturday, November 29 at Varsity Arena.

Ed Snetsinger (Ajax, Ont.) was named the Blues player of the game for his one goal and two assists on the night. Toronto scored three powerplay goals in the victory.

After a scoreless first period, the Blues came out flying in the second and scored two quick goals to gain a lead that would last throughout the game. First-year forward Kyle Ventura (Scarborough, Ont.) opened up the scoring as he took a cross-crease pass from Snetsinger and found the back of the net. Less than two minutes later, Snetsinger floated off the blue line to bury a rebound and the Blues held a 2-0 lead going into the final frame.

Carleton got into penalty trouble in the third period and Toronto capitalized as Snetsinger sent a pass from the point to a wide open Byron Elliott (Burlington, Ont.) on the back post for the Blues third goal of the game. Fifth-year veteran Steven Devine (Scarborough, Ont.) would add an empty-net goal with 19 seconds left to cap off the Blues 4-0 victory.

Toronto goaltender Russ Brownell (Oakville, Ont.) played an outstanding game, making 31 saves and recording his first shutout of the season.

The Varsity Blues return to action on Saturday, January 3 when they host the Ottawa Gee-Gees at Varsity Arena. The puck drops at 7:30 p.m.
