The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women’s hockey team shut out the York Lions 4-0 on Saturday, October 25 at Varsity Arena.
Amanda Fawns (Scarborough, Ont.) opened up the scoring, capitalizing on a turnover, roofing the puck past York goaltender Megan Slumskie (Baden, Ont.).
The Blues scored again just three minutes later as Emily Milito (Ottawa, Ont.) buried a power-play rebound off the back post. Toronto led 2-0 after the first period.
Fourth-year assistant captain and Blues player of the game Annie DelGuidice (Hamilton, Ont.) would tally her second assist of the night, feeding second-year forward Brenley Jorgensen (Kingston, Ont.) a pass from the high slot for another Toronto power-play goal.
Madoc, Ont. native Darby Smith scored the Blues fourth goal of the game as she walked across the high slot and sent one through traffic and into the net.
Neither team could find the back of the net in the third period. Blues first-year goaltender Kendyl Valenta (Hamilton, Ont.) stopped 24 shots for her third shut out of the season.
The Varsity Blues host the Western Mustangs next Saturday, November 1st at Varsity Arena. The puck drops at 4 p.m.
