BLUES DOWN RIDGEBACKS 4-1

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women’s hockey team came away with a 4-1 victory over the UOIT Ridgebacks on Sunday, October 19 at Varsity Arena.

Second-year forward Lindsay Hill (Ajax, Ont.) opened up the scoring for the Blues as she skated down the wing and sent the puck through the legs of Ridgebacks goalie Emma Thompson (Hastings, Ont.).

Two minutes later, Annie DelGuidice (Hamilton, Ont.) sent a beautiful pass to third-year arts and science student Emily Milito (Ottawa, Ont.), who also scored five hole, to put the Blues up by two.

Toronto continued to dominate in the second period, scoring two power-play goals. Kamloops, B.C. native and Blues player of the game Karolina Urban picked up her own rebound on a wide shot to notch the third goal and DelGuidice fed Milito another pass from behind the net to tally Toronto’s fourth goal of the game.

First-year UOIT forward Breanne Hadley (Belleville, Ont.) would spoil the shut out as she capitalized on a Toronto turnover and sent a stellar shot into the top corner of the net.

Blues goaltender Kendyl Valenta (Brampton, Ont.) made 17 saves in the 4-1 victory.

The Varsity Blues return to action Saturday, October 25 when they host the York Lions at Varsity Arena. The puck drops at 7:30 p.m.
