Fourth-year veteran Ainsley McMurray had a breakout meet in leading the University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's swimming team to the national championship title this past weekend in Victoria.

The Master's of environmental science major won three gold medals, while also earning three bronze medals over the three-day meet. McMurray opened the championships by successfully defending her 50 freestyle title in a time of 26.07 seconds.

McMurray shocked the pool with her second national title of the meet, winning the 100 freestyle on Day 3. McMurray touched the wall in 55.60 seconds to edge 2020 Olympian Rebecca Smith by two one-hundredths of a second. She then anchored the Blues 400 freestyle relay team to victory in the last event of the championships.

The native of Montreal also earned the 200 freestyle bronze medal (2:03.17) on Day 2, while also anchoring U of T's 800 freestyle and 400 medley relay teams to third-place finishes.
