A second-year life science major, Janna Elshakankiri was a dominant force in leading the Varsity Blues women’s fencing team to their fifth consecutive OUA banner this past weekend at Brock University.

Hailing from Regina, Elshakankiri won the Fred Wach Trophy as the women’s individual sabre champion on Friday. Elshakankiri went a perfect 4-0 on the day, defeating RMC's Nikhita Antil, Kirstin Lang of the Queen's Gaels as well as Western's Wing Ka Ariana Tang and Lily Liu to win the event.

Elshakankiri followed that up by helping her teammates Astrid Chandler, Esther Isadora-Falkson and Rojina Haji-Mahmoodzadeh to a gold-medal finish in the women’s sabre team relay.
