First-year netminder Valencia Yordanov made 44 saves in leading the University of Toronto Varsity Blues women’s hockey team to two big season-opening victories, Oct. 8-10, on the road.
In her first-ever OUA start, Yordanov posted 24 saves, including 10 in the second period, as the Blues defeated the Ryerson Rams, 2-1, on Thursday night.
The Port Coquitlam, B.C., native went onto notch 20 saves in Toronto’s 3-1 victory over the 2015 OUA silver medalist Guelph Gryphons. Yordanov, a mathematical and physical sciences major, holds an impressive .957 save percentage in the early goings of the OUA women’s hockey season.Â
