Veteran Steffi Wong led the University of Toronto Varsity Blues women`s tennis team to a bronze-medal finish at the 2014 OUA championship this past weekend (Oct. 3-5) in London, Ont.
Wong placed second overall in the No. 1 singles flight and teamed up with fellow Varsity Blue Jenny Cape to earn the No. 1 doubles title. Â The dentistry major from Unionville, Ont., earned her third consecutive OUA all-star recognition.
Wong defeated Priti Gujdhar of McMaster 6-0, 6-0 and Carletonès Isabella Boushey 6-0, 6-3, to advance to the No. 1 singles final. There, she met Yorkès Valerie Ushanova, dropping a close match 5-7, 4-6.
In doubles action, Wong and Cape notched an 8-0 victory over McMasterès Gujdahar and Southcott before advancing to the final and defeated Ushanova and Kedrzycki 8-7 for the title.Â
