The University of Toronto Varsity Blues track sensation Megan Brown set a U of T record, a McGill Field House record as well as the meet record in the women’s 3000m race at the 14th annual McGill Challenge, January 31st.
She now becomes the top-ranked 3000m runner in Sporting Canada’s national rankings.
The Faculty of Physical Education and Health student ran the 3000m in a time of 9:11.69, breaking both Sarah Dillabaugh’s meet record set in 1997 (9:25.12) and the McGill Field House record of 9:15.83 set in 2000. She also broke her personal best and Varsity Blues mark of 9:12.70, which she established at Notre Dame in 2007.
Brown, a native of Guelph, Ont., is now on pace to beat Brenda Shackleton’s 11-year-old CIS record of 9:04.88.
