Sebastian's Scribes #1 - Training Camp Preview
After an early end to the 2009 season, the Blues immediately set their mind to bettering themselves for this year, specifically the upcoming week of training camp.
Training camp is a crucial week for all teams in the league but especially teams like us who are very young; it is a chance to build a strong foundation and set the pace for a good season. As a team, we took all the positives we could from last year as well as identified our weaknesses. The entire off-season was designated to improving all of our athletes as individuals as well as improving our team as a unit.
A big part of bettering the Varsity Blues as a team for this upcoming season can be attributed to our recruiting class. All the hard work put in by our coaches and everyone involved with our team this off-season has most definitely paid off.
This training camp will display one of the best recruiting classes the Blues have had in the last decade as well as exhibit drastic improvements in our returning players. This next week a lot of the men on this team will find out a lot about themselves as individuals. As a second year player, I personally took this last week to relax, stay healthy, and stay hydrated.
Last year upon entering camp me and other first-year players were very nervous about what we were going to go through over this next week. This year, on the other hand, we are that much more prepared and can go into camp with more confidence which will allow us to become game ready that much earlier.
Myself and a couple of the players spent a weekend out of town to clear our heads and prepare mentally for the week that is upon us. The months of training and the past week of relaxing are now over, it’s time to buckle up and put everything we’ve worked on into motion and start preparing for a great 2010 season. GO BLUES GO!
