BLUES BOLSTER ROSTER WITH ADDITION OF NITSKI

The 12-time reigning OUA champion University of Toronto men's swimming team is proud to announce that Osvald Nitski has signed a letter of intent and committed to swim for the Varsity Blues starting in September, 2015.

"Osvald is a world-class swimmer and was the top male recruit in the province so we are quite pleased that he has chosen U of T," said Byron MacDonald, who enters his 37th season as U of T's head coach this fall.

The Hamilton, Ont., native currently swims for the Oakville Aquatic Club under head coach Sean Baker. The Varsity Blues have had many Oakville swimmers on the team, including recently graduated and five-time CIS 200 butterfly champion Zack Chetrat.

Nitski is also a 200-metre butterflier. He was a finalist at the prestigious junior Pan Pacific championships, which features the top junior swimmers from dominant swim nations like Australia, Japan and the United States. He also captured six gold medals at the Eastern Canadian championships.

"Osvald has already swum for Canada internationally on the junior stage, so the next step is to make some senior teams," said MacDonald. "That will be the goal."

In addition to butterfly, Nitski is a top swimmer in the breaststroke, individual medley and freestyle. He book ends U of T's 2015-16 recruits, joining sprint sensation Cameron Kidd of Brantford, Ont.

"Those two will form a dominant 1-2 punch for the Blues going forward," added MacDonald.

Students who sign a letter of intent and commit to Varsity Blues intercollegiate teams will be eligible to play/participate at the University of Toronto provided they are academically admissible and have applied through the normal process with the Ontario Universities Application Centre.
