GREY CUP COMES FULL CIRCLE, IS BACK IN TORONTO

With the University of Toronto having won the inaugural Grey Cup in 1909, it was only fitting that the CFL's Toronto Argonauts claimed the 100th title this past weekend to complete the storybook ending.

The historical significance has been well documented these past few months - from the record 30 championship games hosted at Varsity Stadium, to the infamous Mud Bowl, Fog Bowl and Ice Bowl - the University has been mentioned at every turn.

Not surprising, it’s been a week-long celebration of all things football, and a busy one for the Varsity Blues football program!  The Blues players and coaches have been scurried throughout the community, lending their skills, talent and promoting the U of T Varsity Blues name at all sorts of events during the 100th Grey Cup Festival.

Rookie quarterbacks Chris Jugovic and Reid Robertson as well as the Marra brothers, Justin and Jordan, kicked things off at the Nissan Family Zone at Yonge and Dundas Square, Nov. 17-18. Kids, their families, and fans of all ages had an opportunity to challenge our pros at throwing, rushing and tackling.

Chris and Reid also made an appearance at W.A. Porter High School for the celebrity media re-enactment of the Mud Bowl. They ran drills and gave instruction to local high school players in various football-related activities.

A large group of Varsity Blues players and coaches were also on hand at Nathan Phillips Square on Sunday, November 18. The players interacted and engaged the crowd from the Santa Clause Parade and had some fun at the other exhibits, including an army obstacle course.

U of T was invited to lunch with CFL commissioner Mark Cohon at the Intercontinental Hotel on Monday, Nov. 19th and then joined dozens of CFL legends at Real Sports Bar and Grill on Friday for their fourth annual alumni event.

Zach Van Kerrebroeck, Everton Williams and Aaron Wheaton got to mix and mingle at the Scotia Bank Gala on Wednesday evening. The trio helped anchor an 80-foot hot air balloon and its aerialist on the Rogers Centre turf on Nov. 21st.
