Former Varsity Blues fastpitch player Karlene Headley-Cooper has travelled overseas to play softball in Holland in preparation for the 12th annual International Softball Federation (ISF) women’s world championship, June 23 - July 2, in Caracas, Venezuela.
A dual-sport athlete in fastpitch and squash during her time at U of T, Headley-Cooper is playing for Olympia Haarlem in a strong semi-professional Dutch league.
The Mississauga, Ont., native currently leads the league with four triples and is among the top 20 batters in the nine-team league, batting .320. She is also ranked in the top 15 in slugging percentage (.500) and on-base percentage (.404).
Headley-Cooper will represent Great Britain, after leading the squad to a silver-medal finish and world championship berth at the 2009 European softball championships last July.
