The 1991-92 University of Toronto female athlete of the year, Suzanne Deschamps, was inducted into the University of Toronto Sports Hall of Fame on Thursday, May 27 at Hart House Theatre.
Deschamps played a major role in establishing the reputation that the Varsity Blues women’s volleyball program has today.
A tournament all-star on U of T’s first OWIAA women’s volleyball championship team in 1988-89, Deschamps was also a three-time league all-star and was named both a CIAU all-Canadian and academic all-Canadian in 1992. A two-time Varsity Blues team captain, Deschamps was selected to the CIAU East high performance team in 1989.
During her time at U of T, she also played on the Scarborough Solars, winning two provincial club championships and one Canadian junior volleyball championship title.
Deschamps was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) Honour society U of T Medicine in 1994 for achieving high honours throughout medical school. She practices family medicine in West Salem, OR.
The Sports Hall of Fame honours U of T's greatest athletes and builders. It was established by the T-Holders' Association in 1987 as part of an ongoing effort to preserve and display the records relating to the outstanding historical tradition of athletic, academic and community leadership fostered by the University of Toronto.
