Captain of the 1974-75 OWIAA women’s fencing team champions, Yoko Ode has enjoyed a long and successful career as both an athlete and a coach in the fencing community.
After graduating from U of T, Yoko went on to become a Canadian A ranked fencer and in 1979 won a silver medal at the Canada Winter Games. She has competed nationally, internationally and as a veteran for the last 28 years, earning six bronze-medal finishes at the Ontario championships.
Yoko began coaching the U of T fencing team the year after she graduated. For nearly 30 years, she has assisted with coaching Varsity fencers under the mentorship of Maitre Ken Wood.
