A well-rounded and talented athlete, Ward Passi was certainly an overachiever. He earned First Colours as a member of the Varsity Blues football and men’s hockey teams. Ward also earned two degrees from U of T: a BA from Victoria College in 1966 and an LLB in 1969.
The 1965-66 season was a standout year of athletics for Ward. He brought home national championships in both of his Varsity sports: first the Vanier Cup for football, then the CIAU Hockey title. That season, he also received the W.A. Dafoe Trophy as the Hockey MVP A hardworking and dedicated leader, Ward also served on the athletic directorate and was hockey team captain in 1966-67. His outstanding contribution to Varsity athletics was honoured in 1966 when he received U of T’s George Biggs Trophy for leadership, sportsmanship and performance. He was a member of the Blues hockey team that won the bronze medal for Canada at the 1968 World University Games (FISU) in Austria.
Ward has been inducted into the U of T Sports Hall of Fame as a team member twice. In 2002, the 1965 football team was honoured, and in 2005, his 1965-66 hockey team was recognized.
