Graduated University College (Commerce) 1930 received Inducted in 1994 Walter Bean was an outstanding member of the football Blues for four seasons from 1926-29, and was the only intercollegiate player chosen to Mike Rodden's Canada all-star team in 1929. He was also accomplished in ice hockey, playing defence on Blues entry in the Ontario Hockey Association in 1927-28 season and two years of interfaculty competition. He was a member of the U of T Men's Athletic Directorate from 1928-30 and Vice-President in 1929-30, and was on the Hart House Board of Stewards in 1929-30. He served in World War II, retiring as a Brigadier General and receiving a Commander of the British Empire (CBE). Bean retired from business in 1983 as Deputy Chairman of Canada Trust and is a former Governor of Stratford Shakespearean Festival.
