In 15 Hockey seasons (1965-79, 1984-85), Tom Watt guided the Blues to 11 OUAA titles and 9 CIAU national championships, including 8 consecutive OUAA titles (1966-73) and 5 consecutive CIAU championships (1969-73). His overall UofT record is 410 wins, 35 ties, 106 Losses. In 1971, he was named the first recipient of the CIAU Hockey Coach of the Year Award.
Watt served as an assistant Varsity Football coach from 1965-71, and was also an Assistant Professor in the School of Physical and Health Education. As a student-athlete, he played on the Blues championship teams in intermediate Football (1957) and senior Hockey (1957-59). He received a Gold T award and the Men's T-Holders' Association Biennial Dinner in 1982.
Watt was named Head Coach of the Toronto Maple Leafs in 1990 and his NHL coaching career also includes Assistant Coach, Calgary Flames (1987-90, Stanley Cup champions 1988-89), Head Coach and Assistant General Manager, Vancouver Canucks (1985-87) and Head Coach, Winnipeg Jets 1981-84 (NHL Coach of the Year 1981-82). He guided the Blues to the Bronze Medal at the 1968 World Student Games, and his international coaching career also includes the World Student Games, 1972; Winter Olympics, 1980 and 1988; the Canada Cup, 1983, 1987 and 1991; and the 1988 World Championships.
