New College 9T2
A member of the Canadian national team in the early 1990s, Rob Wilson left a lasting impression on the Varsity Blues men’s basketball program.
Only the second player in team history to be named a CIAU all-Canadian, Wilson capped off a very successful five-year career as the 1991-92 OUAA East division most valuable player. That year, he led the CIAU in field goal accuracy (78.6%), while averaging 21.9 points and 8.9 rebounds per game in league play. He topped the Varsity Blues in both scoring and rebounding in 17 games and
was named an all-star at the Old Four and National Invitational tournaments that season.
Rob exploded in his sophomore year, leading the team with 542 points and 123 rebounds en route to the 1988-89 OUAA silver medal and an all-star nod. As the team’s top rebounder during the 1989-90 season, Rob helped the Blues to their third national tournament appearance in four years. In 1990-91, he earned the second of three OUAA all-star awards, in his first year as the team’s co-captain.
Rob went on to play for Team Canada at the 1993 and 1995 FIBA Americas championship, finishing seventh and fifth, respectively. He played professional basketball in New Zealand, England, Belgium, Sweden, Israel, Portugal, France, Iceland, and China and later was chosen first overall at the inaugural SlamBall draft in 2002.
