Phyllis Griffiths

Phyllis Griffiths was the outstanding Varsity basketball player during the 192Os, as she competed for four seasons(1924-27), was captain one year and led the Blues to three championships. She also played Interfaculty Basketball and Indoor Baseball(Softball) for four years, winning two championships in Basketball and three in Softball, and was captain of each team for two years. She served on the women's Athletic Directorate for two years and was its representative on the Intercollegiate Rules Committee. She earned a total of 4 Senior Colours and 5 Junior Colours.

After graduation, she coached the Blues from three seasons (1928-3O), winning championships in 1929 and 193O, and was an Intercollegiate Basketball Official from 1931-194O.

While a student, Griffiths worked on the undergraduate newspaper The Varsity as women's sports editor and later Managing Editor. She joined the Toronto Telegram in 1927 and was one of the first female sports columnists("The Girl and the Game") in Canada. She is a member of the Canadian Newspaper Hall of Fame.
