An outstanding student, Jock Maynard was also a skilled and versatile athlete who participated in three intercollegiate sports. He played on the Blues hockey team in the OHA Junior league in 1936-37 and 1937-38, was a member of the Blues Intermediate championship team in 1937-38, and played on the Senior Blues from 1938-40. He was captain of the Canadian and international league championship team in 1939-40. In football, Jack played on Varsity’s entry in the Junior Interprovincial League in 1937. He was also a member of Blues Intermediate tennis champions in 1939-40. In his graduating year, he received U of T’s prestigious Moss Scholarship. He was also a member of U of T’s team of three who wrote and won the international William Lowell Putnam mathematical competition placing in the top five individually.
