James Wallace "Wally" Graham

"Wally" Graham was a member of Varsity track and field teams for eight seasons between 1923-24 and 1931-32 (except 1928-29 season), and was on four championship teams. He won the 1-mile title in 1929 and 1930, and the 3-mile in 1930. During five seasons of cross country, he helped the Blues win four league titles, was twice the individual gold medallist and set the league record in 1927. He also competed in many international and invitational meets. Graham was active in Interfaculty Track, setting a 3-mile record in 1926 which stood for 34 years. In the Interfaculty program, he competed in track and cross country for nine years, and was also active in basketball, football and lacrosse. 

In 1933, Graham received the Gold Cane award from Medical Athletic Association. In his honour, friends donated the J.W. Graham Trophy for the Interfaculty Track Championship team. In 1961, University College presented him with an Honourary First Athletic Colour, the first non-U.C. student to be so honoured. He was an elected member of the UTAA Men's Athletic Directorate from 1929-33, a Presidential Appointee in 1950-51 and President in 1956-57.
