"Hank" Monteith was an outstanding left winger on the hockey Blues for four seasons from 1963-64 through 1966-67. As a rookie, he was an all-star on the Blues league championship team in 1963-64. In the following season, he was second to his brother in Blues scoring and was third in league scoring. He was an all-star in 1965-66 and 1966-67 as Blues won the league and CIAU national championships. Monteith is third in all-time CIAU Tournament scoring with 15 points in only five games. Following graduation from Commerce, he played in the National Hockey League with the Detroit Red Wings.
In 1967, "Hank" was named co-winner of U of T's prestigious Loudon Award with his brother and teammate Stephen Monteith. Stephen, Blues career scoring leader, was inducted into the Sports Hall of Fame in 1991. The brothers have donated the Monteith Trophy for annual presentation to the Hockey Blues leading scorer.
