Donald Carrick is regarded as one of Varsity's greatest all-round athletes, and in 1950 he placed second to Lionel Conacher in the Canadian Press national poll for the greatest Canadian male athlete of the half-century.
In Boxing, he was a three-time intercollegiate champion (light- heavyweight in 1924-25; heavyweight in 1925-26 and 1926-27), and represented Canada at the 1928 Olympic Games in Amsterdam.
In Football, he was a member of the Blue championship team in 1926 and also played in 1927.
In Golf, his accomplishments include: member of the Blues intercollegiate championship teams in 1925 and 1926, Canadian Amateur Champion in 1925 and 1927, and Ontario Amateur Champion in 1926 and 1933. He set several course records, including a 63 at the Scarboro Golf and Country Club which lasted until 1987.
In Hockey, he was a defenseman on the Blues 1925-26 intercollegiate junior team which won games at West Point and Annapolis. Carrick also played on the 1927-28 intercollegiate championship team and then for Conn Smythe's Varsity Juniors and Varsity Seniors in OHA Leagues.
An outstanding student, earning the U of T's Aikins Scholarship in 1927 for highest standing in English. He was a member of U of T Historical Club in 1926-27 and was nominat-ed for a Rhodes Scholarship. In addition to his U of T degree, he is a graduate of Osgoode Hall Law School and earned Bachelor of Laws from Harvard Law School.
