David Breech

Water Polo
David Breech played Varsity water polo for three seasons, helping the Blues to the championship title in 1967 and captaining the team in 1969 and 1970.
During that time, he also served as a student member on the Intramural Sports Committee, as the chairman from 1969-71 and an alumni member from 1971-87. He won the Sidney Earle Smith Trophy, presented to the intramural male athlete in his graduating year adjudged worthiest in the qualities of leadership, sportsmanship and performance, while playing intramural rugby, football, basketball, volleyball, swimming and water polo in 1970-71.
Breech was the national water polo head referee from 1979-87 and served as the President of the Ontario Water Polo Association from 1971-85.
He was the first chairperson of the University of Toronto Recreation Committee, is a long-time member of the T-Holders’ Association and has served on the athletics fundraising and sponsorship, marking and alumni committees. The annual intramural co-ed athlete of the year recipient receives an award in his name.
Breech was honoured as a University of Toronto Arbor Award recipient in 2001 in recognition of his volunteerism for outstanding personal service to the university.
